Plai Festival (14 Sep 2012 - 16 Sep 2012)
From 14 Sep 2012 To 16 Sep 2012
Every year, in mid-September, Timişoara hosts Plai Festival, one of the biggest events in Romania promoting and celebrating multiculturalism through music and art. This year, the festival will be held at the Banat Village Museum between September 14th and 16th.
During the 3 days of festival, spectators will take a journey through the specific music styles of numerous countries all over the world. If, in the past editions, the organizers brought in front of the public artists such as Al di Meola or Paco de Lucia, for this year they have invited the Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, the Azerbaidjani mugham, jazz and opera singer Aziza Mustafa Zadeh, the German jazz ensemble The Ganga and the Afro-German reggae artist Patrice, who will be accompanied by The Supowers. Apart from them, the public will have the chance to listen to the festival’s resident band, Subcarpaţi, which combines hip-hop with Romanian folk music, and the indie rock band Blue Nipple Boy.
Since Plai Festival is a celebration of multiculturalism, art is present in its every form, be it more or less conventional. From theatre to paintings, books, photography, films and workshops to traditional crafts (pottery, folk costumes and embroideries), art is an expression of the national identities that the festival promotes.
