Murfatlar Wine Cellar

Murfatlar Wine Cellar in Craiova, part of the national network of wine shops with the same name, commercializes high quality red, rosé, and white wines from the largest wine producer in Romania, Murfatlar. These wines are made from grapes harvested from the over 3,000 hectares of the Murfatlar vineyards in Dobrogea.

The wine cellar sells the producer’s entire product portfolio, which includes a wide variety of excellent wines. You can choose your favourite wine by taking into consideration a number of criteria, such as sweetness, age and alcohol by volume. The Murfatlar wine can be dry (sec), medium dry (demisec), medium (demidulce) or sweet (dulce).

If you like the sweet wines, we recommend you to try the Chardonnay, also known as “sweet of Murfatlar”. Nationally and internationally famous, this vintage wine has a characteristic floral taste which will delight you if served at the proper temperature of 8 – 10 °C.

The Murfatlar medium wines, such as Fetească Regală & Fetească Albă, Pinot Noir & Burgund and Pinot Noir & Merlot, have won numerous awards in wine competitions around the world. Try the Muscat Ottonel, which perfectly pairs chicken dishes with white sauces, and the Fetească Neagră, which, after it ages, it acquires a cinnamon flavour.

If medium dry wines suit you best, Murfatlar Wine Cellar provides you with the popular Riesling, the Merlot & Băbească Neagră, perfect for accompanying a barbecue, and the “summer”-ish Merlot & Cabernet Roze and Sauvignon Blanc. The Italian Riesling, with a long tradition in Romania, is the best companion for fish and vegetable dishes.

Murfatlar’s stars are definitely its dry wines. The Riesling & Sauvignon Blanc, with its fresh hay flavour, the green apple taste of the Pinot Gris, and the vintage Fetească Neagră, with a flavour of blackberries, cranberries and dried plums, will charm your taste buds. The most popular dry wine is the Sec de Murfatlar, which best preserves the taste of fully mature grapes.

Lacrima lui Ovidiu (“Ovid’s Tear”) is a truly exceptional, unique wine in Romania, the secret of this special liquor being kept only at Murfatlar. The harmony and flavour of the 10 years of aging make it unmistakable for the skilful taster. In 2011, Lacrima lui Ovidiu won the gold medals at the Vinalies Internationales (Paris) and Berliner Wein Trophy (Berlin) and the silver medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (Luxembourg).
