Predeal

Predeal is a ski resort near Brașov, on the Prahova Valley. Being situated at over 1000m above the sea level, it is considered to be the highest altitude settlement in Romania. This position, as well as the fact that the town is almost completely surrounded by mountains, makes Predeal the ideal place for winter sports. The resort has nine ski slopes (10km) with varying degrees of difficulty, served by 2 chairlifts and 3 button lifts. The slopes are usually wide (covering more than 50 sq km) and sunny, for which reason, if the weather conditions are unfavourable for skiing, the artificial snow compensates for the lack of natural snow. Here you will find the best place for alpine and off-piste skiing or biathlon, as well as an ice ring. After a day on the mountain you can accommodate in one of the numerous hotels and villas with different comfort degrees and have fun in a bar or club. The alpine climate in the area, with cool summers and cold winters, makes Predeal a perfect destination during the entire year, not only in the winter. In the summertime, hikers and bikers can choose between the numerous routes and trails to the mountains chalets in the area.

If you get tired of skiing or hiking (depending on the season), reserve a day to visit the imposing Peleș Castle in Sinaia, situated only 20km to the north. Head for Brașov to see the Black Church or to visit the Urban Civilisation Museum and the city’s medieval bastions. Other important attractions situated closer than 35km away from Predeal are Bran Castle and Râşnov Citadel.
