Sicily is the biggest region in Italy and the largest island in the Mediterranean and surely the most interesting. This sun-baked island is known for its natural beauty, warm crystal clear waters, amazing powdery white sandy beaches and mountainous terrain. Sicily has miles and miles of coastline and rolling countryside and we cannot forget, thousands of years of history. This is even before we have mentioned the food, which is glorious and to die for and caters for meat and vegetarian lovers alike. You may want to start your journey in Palermo, renowned for its combination of Arabic, Norman and Baroque architecture,and while you there exploring why not refresh yourself with an ice cold Granita made from fresh Sicilian lemons. Hire a car or jeep and make your way up the long winding roads before walking right to the top to get a view you will never forget. In winter you can even enjoy skiing on this massive volcano!
Sicily is great for children, there is so much to do , to see and discover. Try the huge aqua park,' Etnaland', packed with great big slides, rides and all sorts of fun!
For nightlife, Sicily has an abundance of bars, restaurants and clubs. Why not take a cable car up to Taormina, Sicily's most famous resort, with cool clubs, bars and restaurants. Down below you'll find plenty of beach parties too.
Hikers will be rewarded with stunning views and near deserted beaches as well as amazingly clear turquoise waters at the Reserva Dello Zingaro nature reserve in the province of Palermo. For scuba divers, Ustica ,a volcanic island with underwater caves and steep, rocky coasts is a dream come true and the best diving in the whole of Italy. Did you know that are more than 20 smaller islands that belong and surround Sicily? Why not explore them. The Egadi Islands , Pelagie Islands and the Aeolian Islands are magical.
The best thing about Sicily is the weather, which is always good and you'll discover something special in each season of the year. During Spring the island is dotted with tiny colorful blossoms, Summers are hot with fantastic sunsets, Autumn is the best for city breaks as you can still explore while wearing shorts and flip flops, and in Winter the temperature rarely goes below 10 degrees, so still enjoyable!
