San Vito Lo Capo Information

San Vito Lo Capo is an enchanting Sicilian town with a North African feel.  It is a town full of colourful houses with flat roofs, and streets adorned with flowers.  The beaches are stunning with light white sand and a welcome as warm as the weather. San Vito lo Capo lies on a peninsula in North-West Sicily 100 km from Palermo and around 30 km from Trapani, so it could be a great base for exploring not only locally, but also the whole province of Trapani, with its abundance of interesting places. Visit the natural reserve of Lo Zingaro, an ideal place for romantics with great nature, fantastic scenery and well kept walking trails for a spot of hiking. There's also Erice, a hill-top medieval town with a maze of cobbled street, old timber houses and delicious ice cream. or the impressive ancient ruins in Segesta or Selinunte. The choice is yours! Btw. San Vito Lo Capo has been voted in 2011 as the best Italian beach resort by Tripadvisor.

How to get to San Vito Lo Capo

There is a regular bus service to and from Trapani as well as to and from Palermo. If you are driving take the A29 Palermo – Mazara del Vallo motorway which should take you around an hour. But be aware that parking can be a nightmare, especially during weekends and throughout August.

Things to do and see in San Vito Lo Capo

San Vito Lo Capo came into being in the 18th century and sits under a range of mountains, the highest being Monte Monacco (532 m), and which are very popular not only for great hiking possibilities but also its hidden caves out of which only few can be accessed without climbing gear. There is an unusual church in the shape of a square and with a fortified look dedicated to patron saint St. Vito from whom the town inherited its name.  It’s best attraction must be the beach however, which is often compared to those of the Caribbean. The azure, crystal clear warm sea waters bathe the dazzling white and delicate sand, all of which is overlooked by a heavenly clear blue sky with not a single cloud in a sight.  We would strongly recommend this beach for kids and families as the sea is tranquil and the waves are very gentle.
One thing you should really try to do while in San Vito Lo Capo or in nearby Lo Zingaro is scuba diving. The underwater world in San Vito Lo Capo is as interesting as the world above. There is a diving school as well as wind-surfing school at the harbour-front.
San Vito lo Capo lives mainly from tourism, but we must not forget to mention the olive groves that are scattered over the hills around the town .  You can taste the olives in one of the local restaurants, which also serve locally caught fish with cous cous. We have also tasted and absolutely love 'caldofreddo' – a divine dessert.

Bars, pizzerias and other types of restaurants line up along the main street of Via Savoia.  In Piazza Santuario lots of concerts and festivals are held during the summer. One of the most popular festivals is the couscous festival, held usually in mid-September and lasting 6 days and it is 6 days of great food (some of them are for free and cooked by famous chefs ), culture, music and fireworks. If you cant wait until September and like kite-flying go and take part in the International Kite Festival that takes place in May or the Summer Music Festival in July will definitely satisfy music and fun lovers.
