Nova Gorica with its surroundings

The valley of Idrijca river brings us to the Soca Valley. The latter is a true emerald jewel among the mountains while at the same time in this fabulous landscape provides habitat for rare species. The beauty of the landscape has inspired many poets, but it is attractive also to adventurists due to its numerous possibilities for variety of sports and adventure activities such as rafting, kayaking and canoeing, canyoning in the turquoise waves, hiking, diving and much more. Traditional towns in the valley of Soca are Kobarid and Tolmin, which are rich with quality restaurants, pleasant accommodation units and incredible views on the surrounding mountains and the beautiful Soca.

 
Between the city of Nova Gorica and the emerald Soca river a thousand years old Solkan is located, the oldest settlement in the Soca region. The town was once known for their top carpenter masters, while today most people know it for their successful kayakers and the rail bridge with the largest stone arch in the world.
 
When Soca leaves mountains it directly flows towards the Adriatic Sea. On its west side just a stone’s throw from Nova Gorica, visitors will find famous Goriška brda (Gorica hills), wavy and green landscape with rich soil most know for many world famous wine producers. The central city in this, one of the best wine growing area in Slovenia, is Dobrovo with its large wine cellar and beautiful medieval castle. After the secession from Italian Gorizia, Nova Gorica developed into one of the most modern cities in Slovenia. The city is widely known for its modern entertainment and gambling centers, which attract a large number of guests from all over the world.
 
Nova Gorica is a city of roses, as these precious flowers are found on every step: flowerbeds, planters and finally in the city's emblem. Nova Gorica is also a lively university city as numerous young school children and students flows in each year. This is an attractive place of fun, as in all seasons various events take place - concerts, festivals, plays, fairs, exhibitions and other cultural, culinary and folklore events enrich the lives of locals and tourists.
 
Green Vipava valley is located in the direction of Ajdovšcina, east of Nova Gorica. Above this winery area many paragliders and skydivers from around the world enjoy the unique wind conditions. This friendly area is home of excellent wines such as zelen, pinela and klarnica which are brilliant with local dishes. Vipava is also a home of Mediterranean vegetation, vine, fruit of all kinds, olives and figs which round up the image of its cosy villages and old churches. We cannot forget on Vipava’s prosciutto (Vipava ham) which is one of the most important meat products in the whole country and wider region.
