Gostilna Sestica Overview

Gostilna Šestica is one of the oldest restaurants in Ljubljana with the true »Slovenian essence«, serving traditional Slovenian food and organising Slovenian nights with live Slovenian music and traditional folklore along with excellent dinner.

The building with three hundred years old foundations is not only a great restaurant, serving food since 1776 but a true memoir of the past three centuries. The building stands where it used to be the Augustine Street 6, and this is how the restaurant got its name: šestica means six in Slovenian language.

The restaurant got its first image and was immortalised by a great Slovene man, Janez Vajkard Valvasor, a famous writer, polymath and a member of the English Royal Society. From an old-fashioned inn, a public house and a shelter for coach drivers and travellers, the Šestica has developed into a temple of present day cuisine, based on traditional Slovenian food, serving Mediterranean food as well.

The restaurant really has a lot to offer; from daily lunch menus, wide A’la carte selection and special Šestica choices, such as Bograc:Slovenian traditional goulash, home-made bread, beaked all day long and chestnut cake with cranberries or reasonably priced tasty international menus for those who are not familiar with Slovenian traditional food and would prefer to taste a little bit of everything. They will surprise you with different Public Holidays and Special Occasions menus as well as with carefully selected wines from all main Slovenian wine regions.

Today Gostilna Šestica is known as a nicely, traditionally decorated house of hospitality in the middle of Ljubljana city and because of its location and ingeniously created menu it attracts locals, tourists, politicians and everyone else who would like to try Slovenian traditional food, in a friendly atmosphere. Its quality was acknowledged also with the award of “Ljubljana Quality Selection 2008” in category of restaurants serving Slovenian cuisine.
