Firefly Tapas & Wine Bar Overview

Firefly at Walsh Bay boasts a supreme waterfront spot with spectacular views over the luxury yachts in the harbour. It is quite a cosy little restaurant, seating just 35 at maximum capacity, with wooden decking, steel tableware and patio heaters that keep its trendy customers warm late into the evening. Firefly serves tapas (not necessarily Spanish orientated as our waiter informs us), cocktails and a worldwide selection of wines, 22 of which are available by the glass.

The great thing about the set up of the Firefly menu is that you get to sample several dishes, sharing with the others around your table, making it a very fun and social way to eat. It was certainly refreshing to hear from the waiter that we should just start with a couple of dishes and see how we go. A sensible warning because each of the dishes are a very good size, you could very easily order too much, 2 people would probably be quite happy with 4 dishes!

The menu at Firefly is an exciting read as so many of the dishes sound great and with a wide variety there is always going to be something to tempt everyone’s fancy. A particular 3 favourites of ours were the Spanish meatballs with parmesan, Peking duck pancakes and goats cheese and zucchini fritters. Some other tasty looking dishes that we saw fly by the table include chicken skewers, prawns with aioli dip and mezze platters.

This is the sort of restaurant where you should go to enjoy the cocktails, the wines and the view and if you’re peckish order a plate of something, if you’re still hungry then order another. There is no pressure here, the kitchen turnaround is fast, so you’re never left waiting and if you are, the views aren’t too bad...
