Our Locals' Tip: A small intimate tented camp on the banks of a flowing river in Ruaha, off the beaten track where other safari vehicles are seldom seen.

Kigelia Camp is away from the usual safari circuit and within the spectacular and remote Ruaha National Park. A small and discreet, semi-permanent camp located on the banks of the Ifuguru Sand River and truly in amongst the bush it is not uncommon to find the local wildlife visiting the door step of your tent or passing through the camp both day and night. The subtle colonial charm of the camp will whisk you into a breath-taking safari environment of sunsets, baobab trees and intimate encounters with nature from the moment you arrive.

Ruaha is a park of exclusive game viewing and AfrikaAfrika will provide a professional guided experience throughout your stay to ensure you receive the very best it has to offer. AfrikaAfrika operate an intimate tailor made safari experience where social and environmental priorities for the surrounding area and communities are as highly placed as the exquisite guest experience. By placing a minimal human footprint on the sensitive ecosystem of the Serengeti, AfrikaAfrika intend to protect African natural environments, educating local communities to develop sustainable methods of stewardship and gain their own revenues through responsible tourism.

Kigelia Camp Accommodation

In such a remote and natural position the comfort and safety of AfrikaAfrika’s guests is the prime consideration at all times. The under canvas camping experience in the depths of a national park can seem a daunting prospect, however the camp is designed for safe relaxation amongst nature and the luxurious tents certainly prove that.

The camp has only six guest tents, ensuring that the camp is intimate and minimal in its impact on its surroundings. The tents all accommodate twin or double beds and are beautifully decorated in a neutral African style. All tents are en-suite with an internal flushing toilet and an open air hot water shower to enjoy privately under the stars. A large pavilion tent provides a communal living space for dining and relaxing, with tables and chairs, comfy sofas and a well-stocked reference library.

The spacious walk-in tents blend in seamlessly with the surrounding bush, with each tent boasting a spacious veranda area under the shade of a Baobab or Sausage tree from which to enjoy the exclusive vista of the surrounding river and its wildlife.
