How to get to Crazy Crocodile Campsite
For self-drivers

GPS coordinates: S 09 ° 30,358 'E 034 ° 00,201

Coming from Mbeya, branch off from the highway towards Malawi a few kilometers before the border: left at a petrol station in the direction to Kyela. Shortly before Kyela, turn left into a dirt road to Matema, still 37 km away from where you are now.

As an alternative, we recommend in the dry season the route from Tukuyu directly to Mbaka, Ipinda and Matema.
For backpackers

From Dar es Salaam the SABECO bus company offers a direct connection to Kyela. The 1100-km-long route (684 miles) will be covered in one day. From Kyela pickups go for Matema. From Mbeya, bus station, there are buses usually directly to Matema, starting mostly at midday.
Coming from Europe

We gladly offer you your individual travel package, e.g.

* Pick-up service from the airport in Dar Es Salaam
* Transfer to a hotel at the Indian Ocean
* Transfer from the Indian Ocean to Matema
* Organisation of individual trips to near and distant surroundings

From 2010, the International Airport in Mbeya will be in operation - 160 km distance from the campsite.

Crazy Crocodile Campsite Overview

On the sandy shores of Lake Malawi the Crazy Crocodile Campsite invites to linger. A small paradise, discovered by adventurers for adventurers, located picturesquely at the northernmost tip of Lake Malawi, which is locally called Lake Nyasa.

The nearly 3000-metres-high mountain chain in the Livingstone Mountains provides an impressive backdrop. The next village, Matema, is 3 km (1,8 miles) away.

The Crazy Crocodile Campsite is a simply wonderful spot, removed from the usual tourist routes, suited to dream, relax, chill ... and adventure can be found as well!

Fine silk-soft sand, crystal-clear water with gentle waves, palm trees swaying in the wind, a tropical garden surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Livingstone Mountains - the Crazy Crocodile Campsite is simply beautifully situated, in short, just heavenly.

The warm sand, the water and the plants, growing naturally without human manipulation, invite you to dream, swim, snorkel and chill, to find peace and enjoy life. The view from the campsite conveys a sense of standing at the sea – only with freshwater.

And as paradise also includes eating and drinking, there is at the bar a range of cool drinks and at the restaurant a variety of fresh organic food. For this, mostly ingredients from our own production and from the farms of the surrounding villages are being used.

The entire campsite aims to be ecologically organised, local materials are used for building and renewable energy (solar and wind energy) is utilised, also great care is bestowed on ecological sanitation and waste management.

Crazy Crocodile has its own beautiful sandy beach, a perfect dream. On the extensive estate many tropical plants thrive and prosper: mangoes, papayas, avocados, oranges, lemons, coconuts, pineapples and much more.

The Crazy Crocodile Campsite is ideal for adventurers and self-drivers, which for some time want to stay at a paradisically beautiful spot, but also for everyone who seeks a wonderful place to have a rest, relax and just enjoy life.

Crazy Crocodile Campsite Facilities:

At the campsite you can set up your own vehicle or tent or rent a tent or marquee tent. From autumn 2009 also bandas, comfortable cabins built in African style, will be available.

Furthermore, there will soon be a playground for your kids, and cosy, romantic and appealing chill areas for yourself.

Amazing accomodatimon in Paradise location!
Clemens burtscher from Austria

It is the best accomodation i found during my time in Africa. An amazing and quiet place to relax in the middle of nowhere, beautiful lake and wonderful nice bungalows made of bamboo with very cool outdoor showers (the owner builds everything on his own with help of local village people) a beautiful beach on the lake on your own with mountains panorama in the eastside. It is run by a German guy that welcomes you warmly and friendly, his wife is a brilliant cook, there is a self service bar and lots of possibilities for activitys like hiking, boat tours or a night journey on a treeboat on the crocodile swamp behind the lodge. It was an unforgettable weekend i had there!
