The Market Tavern Overview

There are very few bars in Tenerife where you can say they get it all right. The Market Tavern in Los Cristianos is one of those few. Attracting a loyal following of residents and holidaymakers, owner Joe provides pretty much all that you'd need in a Brit bar abroad.

The outrageous Billy Porter tops the bill. This top Scottish comedian/singer exhibits his unique brand of adult humour to a packed house from 10pm every Wednesday. Word of warning... to see Billy Porter in Tenerife, you'll need to get there early. Tables at The Market Tavern are bagged quickly in the evening when Billy Porter is in Los Cristianos. The best of Tenerife cabaret artists also appear throughout the week, though there's plenty of chance to shine yourself with over 25,000 songs to choose from at karaoke every night.

Billy Porter is also responsible for introducing one of the daily specials at The Market Tavern. If you haven't tried the 'Jacket Special', you haven't lived. Just the thing to soak up the draught Tetley's, Guinness and cider. The menu also includes sandwiches, burgers, omelets, pies, fish and chips and chicken curry. The kitchen opens at 10am, doling out a humongous full breakfast for just €5. A smaller version is also available for €3. Good grub is served until 4pm but if you'd like something more substantial at excellent value prices try Joe's restaurant, The Surrey Arms , just a few doors down.

Like all of the best bars in Tenerife, all live sports are shown on big screen, from rugby to cricket, football to motor racing - in air-conditioned comfort.

For a welcoming, homely atmosphere with friendly bar staff and some of the best entertainment in Tenerife, head to The Market Tavern in Los Cristianos, just past the Arona Grand Hotel. But remember - it's packed in winter, so grab your seat early!
