![]() La Vieja OverviewIf you like a bit of starched cotton and polished silverware in your dining venue then La Vieja would be a wise choice. Especially if you've got fish on your mind. Not only do you get some of the best seafood in Tenerife, quirky mariner-themed decor and on-the-ball waiting staff, you also get an eyeful of Atlantic Ocean and La Gomera while you chow down.
La Caleta, like Los Abrigos, is a fish-lover's haven. And I don't mean as in pet goldfish fans, I mean if you utterly, seriously and psychotically LOVE eating fresh fish. There are currently five seafood restaurants within one square kilometre, and although the others are certainly notable for their produce, La Vieja stands head and shoulders above the rest for style, service and decor. Mind you, you pay for it. This is not a cheap restaurant, but on the other hand you don't get a cheap experience. You get very knowledgable wine waiters, silver service-like waiting on, and food that could make a grown man weep.
The Salmon Lasagna has a loyal local following, as does the Sama Roquera (a meaty, locally-netted fish). The array of seafood choices on the menu can be dizzying, but if you prefer the pick and point method, there's also plenty to whet your appetite in the iced display. If you're looking for paella, you could do a lot worse than La Vieja. Their own special version has a few surprises. Non-fishy types are also catered for and can choose from a small selection of meat dishes including Fillet Steak and Duck. It's also pleasing to see that La Vieja supports the island wine industry with a lenghty list of Tenerife labels to choose from.
La Vieja is a venue for special occasions - unless you have a wallet or purse deep enough to make EVERY meal a special occasion. Class - just pure class.
IF YOU LIKE LA VIEJA, WHY NOT TRY THEIR SISTER RESTAURANT, El Torito , NEARBY. GREAT AUTHENTIC SPANISH CUISINE WITH IMPECCABLE SERVICE.
Opening Times:
1.30pm-11pm Closed Tuesdays. |

August 2011 Out of this world!
John Withers from Grimsby, UK
Being huge fish fans, me and the wife found out about La Caleta being famous for its fish restaurants. When we got there we couldn't really decide, but fortunately we opted for La Vieja and were both totally blown away. Although it was slightly pricey, it was worth it. Out of this world, fish restaurant.

July 2011 Seafood heaven!
Frank from London
Having virtually eaten my way around the world, this place is definately in my top 5, the menu suits all pallets and is reasonably priced given the high standard of the food they produce. I was so delighted to find a seafood cradle as good as it comes, all fresh and none of that frozen tat! One of the best! Keep it up.
Definately worth a visit.
