![]() Tapas Pata de Oro OverviewNow everyone likes good old English grub, but when in Spain (well Tenerife), it would be rude not to try out some tapas... and where better than Tapas Pata de Oro, based in San Blas, Golf del Sur.
Formerly the fabulous and famed Pato de Oro Restaurant, this is a great place to enjoy Tenerife tapas in a spacious and impressive venue offering service with a personal touch and great Spanish food. You can sit in, or eat out on the terrace.
For those of you who don’t know, tucking into tapas is a traditional Spanish way of eating. The idea is to select a range of small dishes from the menu, having a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
But as Tapas Pata de Oro’s slogan quite rightly points out, this place is about ‘more than just tapas’. A cool, relaxed environment has been created with a strong emphasis on hospitality and great value for money.
To complement the tapas there is an a la carte menu which includes some great specials made by Alex the chef. His Lamb cooked Catalan-style is a firm favourite as is the crispy duck.
At this Tenerife tapas restaurant you'll find pimientos padron (small green peppers cooked in olive oil and sea salt), a variety of fish and seafood, meatballs in a rich tomato sauce and patatas bravas (fried potatoes in a hot sauce) or papas arrugadas (Canarian potatoes with their skins on boiled in salt) as well as goats cheese in a honey and tomato salsa. All lip-smackingly delicious.
When it comes to ordering, have a look at what you fancy and go for it. You can stagger your order to get a feel for the size of the portions and then if you’re still hungry keep going. Friendly staff will lend a helping hand with the menu if you're in any doubt.
The food at Tapas Pata de Oro is so good, it’s no wonder it has a reputation as being one of the best places for tapas in Tenerife. There are also some set tapas menus if you prefer to leave the decision-making to someone else. They can cater for large groups, parties, kids and you can even order tapas to take-away... how cool!
The restaurant is popular, so it might be a good idea to book, particularly on Thursday evening when the sound of live acoustic guitar adds to the ambience.
If you're in the area, why not also try the excellent Gulliver’s Grillhouse or Taboos nightclub and Italian Restaurant, Golf del Sur?

Allan and Elaine Robertson from Golf del Sur, Tenerife
We are regulars at Tapas Pata de Oro where we eat at least once a week. The food is always cooked to perfection and the portions are always enough to share. The menu changes regularly and is very imaginative. All staff are friendly and helpful. The best place to eat on the Golf del Sur.

We stayed on the Golf del Sur recently and dined in a variety of restaurants in the San Blas area. One which stood out for us was this tapas place. Great food, nice ambiance and the staff couldn't so enough for us. The only downside, if you can call it that, was that we totally over did it with the ordering!!!

June 2011 Great tapas
Ross from costa adeje
Great night, we all enjoyed the food. Excellent choice of tapas. It made a nice change to eat the Spanish way, rather than having just one big plate of food. Definitely being visiting Tapas Pato de Oro when we come again just before Christmas.
