Vienna Weather

Vienna has a temperate continental climate, with warm, sunny summers and cold winters. The average temperature range in January lies between 23 and 34F (-4C to 1C), while in July temperatures range between 60 and 76F (15C and 25C). Be aware that thunderstorms occur frequently in summer and snowfall is common in winter. We think that spring, autumn and the beginning of summer are perhaps the best times to travel to Vienna.

Winter Summer Autumn Spring

As we said, autumn and spring are probably the best months to visit Vienna. These months are in between the major tourist seasons, so rates are lower and crowds are thinner. Top attractions are open all year-round and going to the most popular Vienna tourist attractions involves less bumping and jostling compared when visiting them during the summer or winter season. So if you have a choice - these seasons are definitely the best option!

Autumn is a cozy and romantic season - the leaves are turning into different colours, the sky is still blue, the sun is shining and temperatures are still mild. The city shows itself from its best and most romantic side.

One of the busiest times of the year are the weeks before Christmas as well as the period around New Years Day. The reason are definitely the romantic Christmas markets and the famously well-known New Years Celebrations, not to mention the New Year's Day concert in the Vienna Musikverein.

The other option is spring - it allows you to see a burst of urban color. It is attractive because of the great deals on flights and accommodation to encourage tourism. So if your budget is limited, spring in Vienna would be an excellent idea.
