Universitätsbräuhaus Overview

During major refurbishments of the former Vienna General Hospital in 1998, the one-time hospital pharmacy was converted into a traditional Austrian restaurant and beer garden - the Universitätsbräuhaus.

In front of the restaurant, in the green, car-free courtyard of the former Vienna General Hospital you will find a spacious beer garden, shaded by old trees, that can be enjoyed by individual diners as well as also provide ample space for larger groups.

The restaurant offers several private dining rooms, in different sizes – from small and cosy, to more spacious - all in the traditional Austrian style as well as a separate smoking and Non smoking area.

The Kitchen: truly traditional Viennese - one of the best you can get in town. The Unibräu (Universitätsbräuhaus) offers freshest, local and seasonal food to its guests – i.e. game in winter, during the summer guests can enjoy freshly prepared food from the huge charcoal grill in the middle of the beer garden.

The beer is brewed specially for the Unibräu, the wine is cultivated in their very own organic vineyard right outside Vienna (it can be visited in the Grinzingerstraße 86, in the 19th district, 20min by car).

The Universitätsbräuhaus is open daily from 08.00 am to 02.00 am. In the mornings a separate breakfast menu is on offer. From 11.00 am onwards the daily changing menu includes traditional Austrian cooking, international and vegetarian meals as well as specialties from the charcoal grill.

The kitchen is open until midnight.
