The kitchen in Viennese restaurants usually closes around 9.00pm, latest at 9.30pm and most restaurants will not take any cooked meals orders after this hour. There are a few exceptions of course, which we have listed here.
It is a safe bet to try getting a late dinner at restaurants that are located close to one of Vienna's famous theatres or concert halls - this is where people would expect to get a nice cooked meal after enjoying a performance. However, most of those places are very busy at "later hours", so without reservation it can be tricky....
