Prater Amusement Park
Vienna
The Prater is one of the only amusement parks left where you can still ride on the old-fashioned merry-go-rounds from the turn of the century, or visit haunted houses as they were designed 100 years ago. It is a real treat and a step back in time to Europe's past. However, modern times have caught up here too - you can still find the thump and bumps of bumper cars or roller coasters. It is a perfect day out for the entire family.
Right next to the Amusement Park is the Prater Park, also known as the 'green lung' of Vienna. Many locals spend the day out here in summer as it is huge, easily reached by public transport and beautifully located, right next to the Danube River. Great lanes for biking and jogging, lots of children's playgrounds and many restaurants and bars to sit and relax. Of course, this is best to visit in summer, rather than in winter. However, huge plains covered with a thick layer of snow is also a great sight, especially if you are planning to come with kids during winter.
