Whitsundays Weather

The Whitsunday region enjoys a typically sub tropical climate all through the year. This climate makes it perfect as a beach destination and the Whitsundays region is popular for exactly that. As it lies on the identical tropical latitude as the Fiji Islands, the climate in Whitsundays is very similar to that enjoyed in Fiji.

Located 350 Kilometre from the Tropic of Capricorn, the Whitsundays region enjoys the best of all climates in the neighbouring places. One of the main reasons for the pleasant weather in Whitsundays is the southeast trade winds that effectively stabilise the increasing temperatures all through the year.

Known for its warm days throughout the year, the Whitsundays maintain an average temperature of 27 degree Celsius. In the summer months of December to February, this region records a maximum day time temperature of 30 degree Celsius. Like most neighbouring tropical regions, Whitsundays records the highest levels of rainfall during the summer. However, these tropical showers are generally brief.

During the colder months between June and August, Whitsundays records a maximum temperature of 25 degree Celsius and a minimum of 18 degree Celsius. Experiencing pleasant weather even in the coldest months, Whitsundays serves as a perfect beach holiday destination throughout the year. In addition to great swimming experiences in the Pacific, Whitsundays offers water sports and adventure sports like deep sea diving. Located in the heart of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef , the Whitsundays is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia for adventurous tourists.

The tropical climate in Whitsundays ensures that all the days of the year are equally pleasant and relaxed. This amazing weather also helps tourists pack light. As there is no need of heavy jackets or woollens, tourists can make do with lighter clothes and sweatshirts during the winter. If you are planning to spend most of your time at the beach, make sure to bring light breathable clothes and casual beach wear.

Mackay Weather

Being one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia, Mackay attracts tourists from all over the world. Located 350 kilometres from the Tropic of Capricorn, Mackay is mainly classified as a tropical region.

The Mackay region of Queensland generally enjoys a warm climate all through the year. Although the summer days are hot and humid, Mackay enjoys an afternoon sea breeze. Typically humid, Mackay enjoys cool and dry climate during nights and colder months.

Winters on the other hand, are extremely pleasant. During the winter months, the days are sunny and warm while the nights can become slightly cool while moving away from the coast. With a fairly high annual precipitation rate, Mackay's wettest months begin from December to March while the driest months occur during August and September.

Temperatures in Mackay are more or less tropical, with maximum day temperatures reaching 30 °C in summers and 25 °C in winters. The night temperatures are pleasant in Mackay with a minimum of 23 °C during summer and 14 °C in winter. Although rare, temperatures in Mackay have reached more than 30 °C during summers and dropped below 4 °C in the winters. Despite seeing heavy rains on occasional days, Mackay remains rain free for most of the year. You can lighten up on the woollens if you plan to visit Mackay as the weather always remains warm and pleasant and rarely tips below 13 °C.
