Rubyvale

If the name Rubyvale reminds you of precious gems, you have guessed right! Located in Central Queensland’s Gemfields district, the town is a hub of sapphire mining. The most popular attraction in Rubyvale is sapphire fossicking – visitors don’t mind getting their hands dirty if it means discovering a precious gem. But more rewarding than actually chancing upon a sapphire is the fun that accompanies the fossicking process.

A tour of Miners Heritage ushers you into the glittering world of stunning sapphires. From observing the production process to admiring the underground exhibition and jewellery showroom, Miners Heritage is a treat for anyone who loves and appreciates gems.

If you cannot get enough of sapphires, a visit to the Rubyvale Gem Gallery will definitely wow you. Here’s where you can admire fabulous Australian sapphires in all their splendour and even purchase the beautifully cut and aesthetically designed sapphire jewellery on display.

Taking bush fossicking to a whole new level is Little House of Gems located to the left of Rubyvale intersection. Try your luck in areas where huge sapphires have been unearthed, and also make time for bird-watching, off-road driving and camping on the property.
