Mackay Regional Festival of Arts

Type: Arts

The Mackay Regional Festival of Arts is among Queensland's biggest regional festivals. It is held over a period of sixteen days and covers over 30 different events of all art forms and caters to all audiences. The festival celebrates Mackay's 150th anniversary and the festival's 25th this year. It brings together the best local and national artists for a unique celebration. The theme for this year is water and light. Featuring cabaret, dance and theatre performances, this festival is bound to deliver a good time for the whole family.

With football fever in the air, residents can now experience and relish the thrill of the sport in a remotely different arena thanks to 'Krakouer!' – a Mackay Regional Festival of Arts performance. 'Krakouer!' is a play based on Phil and Jim Krakouer – two greats of Australian Rules football. Phil and Jim from the south of Western Australia's Mount Barker took the Aussie football scene by storm, early in the 1980s.

This award winning play is set to premier on the 14th of July at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC). The Lynette Denny Space on Alfred Street will host the play at 11 A.M and 8 P.M as part of the tour Down Under.

Mayor Col Meng said that the event is special as it brings in a unique audience that may not usually visit a play production or theatre. This is where the Festival of Arts succeeds as it allows more and more people to step out of their comfort zones to encounter new experiences and enjoy the creative arts. 'Krakouer!' is a perfect blend of the passion and love that exists with theatre and football, and if there's a show to bring the brothers, fathers, partners and uncles along to, this is it!

Tickets for the event can be purchased for $38 per adult and $22 per child. They will be available at the venue. For more details, call 49619777 or visit www.festivalmackay.org.au.
