Apply for a Visitor Visa at Your Australian Embassy

Citizens of all countries, except New Zealand, will require a visitor visa to gain entry into Australia for tourism, holidays or visiting friends or loved ones. New Zealand nationals only require a valid passport to enter Australia for Queensland vacations. This visa will have to be applied outside Australia before you actually travel to the country. You can apply for it at the Australian embassy in your country or opt for an electronic visa online (ETA) if you belong to an ETA-eligible country (check http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/976/eligibility.htm ). If there is an Australian consulate in your city, you can meet the concerned person for a visa in person. If not, you can opt for an Australian embassy in the city nearest to yours.

The Australian embassy in your country will provide you detailed information about different types of visitor visas available to you. Keep in mind that there are different subclasses of visa that allow visitors to stay in Queensland for a certain period of time, i.e. 3 months, 6 months to up to a year. The embassy will tell you about visa requirements, documentation needed, new visa rules, what to do when you lose your tourist card, and other pertinent information. All the up-to-date information you need can be had at the embassy. The embassy will process your visa application after you have submitted the necessary documentation along with the fee accompanying your visa. For ETA (visitor) subclass 976 and eVisitor subclass 651, no application fee is charged, while a fee is charged for Tourist subclass 676 and Sponsored Family Visitor Visa subclass 679.
