York Weather

Brtish people are obsessed with the weather, probably because of its ever changing nature which gives us plenty to talk about!!!

As the saying goes;

Whether the weather is cold, or whether the weather is hot

We'll weather the weather, whatever the weather

whether we like it or not!

The weather in York is best described as unpredictable. Typical of the UK, the weather can change on a daily basis which makes it difficult to plan what to wear. The best advice is to be prepared for sun and showers at all times!

January and February are usually the coldest months and snow is possible. Dress warmly at this time of year as temperatures can stay around zero during the day and will be even lower at night.

March and April bring longer days and the hope of Spring. The weather is very changeable at this time of year, sometimes it can be pleasantly warm and sunny but April showers are always a possibility (even in March) so have an umbrella with you at all times.

May and June can be the best months of the year with temperatures rising to the early twenties some days. You will notice that when the sun does come out the locals make the most of it, flocking to the parks and riverside beer gardens to enjoy the Sun.

July and August are traditionally the hottest months but this is not guaranteed. Heatwaves do occur occasionally and Thunderstorms occur regularly so be prepared for the weather to change within hours!!

September and October see the days getting shorter and Autumn is in full swing. Some years will see an 'indian summer' when the weather is hotter than expected. Usually the days are warm but the nights are getting much cooler.

November and December are often wet and windy in York. Sometimes the sky will be clear and blue but the temperatures now will be low, typically less than 10 degrees during the daytime and close to Zero at night.

So no matter what time of year you are visiting York come prepared because the weather will surprise you!
