Ramla Bay

Ramla is the largest sandy beach in Gozo and possibly the best beach on the Maltese islands. It is cut off from any significant development and still possesses a rugged natural feel to it. The sea here is normally clean, clear and safe for bathing. The vistas out to the open sea and to the surrounding rock shoreline are lovely. The fine sand is a reddish-golden colour and abundant. There are all the facilities needed for a day out at the beach including a snack bar and cafe and bathing amenities for hire. An added attraction to the beach is a white statue of the Virgin Mary on the sand.

Even though Ramla Bay is the most popular beach in Gozo, it is always possible to find a good sandy spot even in the height of summer as local and tourist numbers do not compare with those of Malta. There are number of routes that can get you to Ramla Bay. The easiest are via Nadur and Xaghra through a bamboo valley while a steep scenic road from Marsalforn via Calypso Cave can also be negotiated.
