Shopping is a delightful experience in the Alicante region. The Spanish department store El Corte Ingles is found in the larger cities. Every town will have a range of shops from top brands such as Zara and Mango and to family-run specialist shops.
The Alicante and Costa Blanca region is a great place to pick up leather goods, ceramics, cigarettes, spirits and wine at a bargain price. Handbags are made in Gata de Gorgos while Elche is famous for its shoe industry. The locally-produced wines are not as well known as other Spanish wines but they are very good. Olive oil and honey are other local products which you may wish to take home with you. Even if you are not a great shopper, most towns hold a weekly market which is a fun way to shop. You can try out your Spanish while seeking souvenirs to take home.
