Britomart
Just a short walk east from Viaduct Harbour, you'll find one of Auckland's oldest quarters, now home to it's newest retail precinct.
At Britomart, you'll be able to wander around a 6.5 hectare mix of Edwardian buildings, modern high-rises, Victorian heritage restorations and glass facades, housing designer shops, bars, restaurants and apartments.
Auckland's first real mercantile precinct, Britomart fell into decay in the late 19th century, and it wasn't until a century later that it was revived, Phoenix-like, and transformed into today's urban retail mecca.
It's a great place to come and blend in with Auckland's well-heeled shoppers for a couple of hours. Famous labels sit alongside smaller, eclectic boutiques, with a wealth of funky bars and restaurants nestled in between.
Come the evenings, and Britomart transforms into a trendy hub of nightlife, with pubs, clubs and plenty of live music seven days a week. There's even an art gallery showcasing new and established New Zealand artists, located in Stanbeth House.
Atrium on Takutai is one of the most exclusive of Britomart's retail sections. It's a covered gallery of high-end stores and cafes, which also provides an important pedestrian link between the Britomart Transport Centre (underground train station), the Britomart Car Park and Takutai Square.
Galway Street, Tyler Street and Quay Street make up the other perimeters of Britomart, and it's also where you'll find the weekly Market every Saturday morning between 8.00am and 2.30pm.
