#TAFTA: Epic Ocean Explorer

Set sail with us as we go fishing for a first-rate sea-bound adventurer whose love of the ocean simply can’t be breached and have a whale of a time as we whistle aboard our brand new winner… The Fearful Adventurer.

Torre De Force…
There’s no doubting that Torre De Roche has done a few things that would have some folks in fits of anxiety, nervously sweating at even the prospect of such an occurrence. Heck, even Torre herself admits she’s got a few bones to pick with apprehension. But instead of letting her fear take over, she socked it square in the mouth and shouted a big ‘YES I CAN’ right in its face. Throw in a love interest, an oceanic quest and a pinch of bohemian parental guidance and you’ve got The Fearful Adventurer. Not to mention the makings of a great Hollywood movie (so listen up, Cameron).
I Can Sea Clearly Now…
At the tender age of 26, Torre hopped aboard the good ship, Amazing Grace, and set off to the South Pacific. For one with a deep-seated terror of the water, this in itself was quite the step, but love, as we know, can do funny things to the mind. An avid promoter of slow travel, Torre’s treks have taken her to many a far flung corner by many means of transport, but as one with an acute lust for life, she’s unremittingly curious about what dangers might lie ahead.
The blog encompasses a bit of cruising, sure, and makes us drift off into daydreams more often than we’d care to disclose, but it’s the panic-stricken posts and life-threatening ponderings that really set this site apart. Fearful, one can imagine, sits at quite a distance from fearless. Torre’s constant questioning of her own mortality makes for real interesting stuff, to say little of how humorous the preoccupation with worry turns out to be. Sometimes, it’s nice to know you’re not the only one, which is why the Holy Sh*t I’m Going To Die series (contributed to by guest bloggers) is such a great read (easy for us to say when we’re tucked up with a cuppa in the comfort of our own homes).
The drive to get motivated is something that runs throughout, as well as reference to the opportunities that can be lost if you let cold feet rule your decisions. One of the beautiful elements of this blog is its ability to successfully balance advice with actual accounts. This isn’t some fabricated hokum someone’s come to your door to sell. The travel tips, ‘how to’s and revelatory tales are all backed up by real-life events, without even a whiff of self-importance. Take it or leave it (but we think you’ll come back for more).

Water Way To Go…
Not satisfied with simply conquering her fears, having her art on the move aboard a Melbourne tram, sailing the high seas with an Argentinian lover AND having an award-winning blog (a #TAFTA counts, okay), Torre has also turned her hand to the testing world of literature, producing her first book, Swept: Love With A Chance of Drowning, in 2011. The tome has received commercial and critical praise from a wide-ranging audience and continues to exhilarate and inspire new readers the world over. Torre’s dedication to driving her worry away, her efforts and achievements only lead us to one conclusion…there is simply nothing this girl can’t do.
If you’re adrift in the world and need a little wind in your sails to get started on a big adventure, we fully recommend checking out the world of The Fearful Adventurer – she’s real swell.
