Constantia Information

My Destination
My Destination

Constantia is South Africa´s oldest wine growing region. The grandest estate in the area is Groot Constantia (Big Constantia) that was established in 1684 by the Dutch Colonial Governor of Cape Town, Simon van der Stel. Other notable wine farms in the area include Klein Constantia (Small Constantia), Constantia Uitsig (Constantia Outlook), Buitenverwachting and the Steenberg Estates. Before the twentieth century, the region was noted for its exports of Constantia, a sweet dessert wine.

Constantia is a very picturesque affluent suburb with large properties and beautiful homes. While these estates are often ignored for the true Cape Town winelands, one of the best things about Constantia is that it is only a few kilometers south of Table Mountain and the Cape Town City Bowl, so it is the most accessible wine region in the area.
