Chamonix is quite simply a magical place. Lift your eyes upwards from anywhere in the Chamonix Valley and you can’t miss the mythical peaks of Mont Blanc. Sitting at the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix town has become a veritable Mecca for winter and summer mountain sports enthusiasts.
Skiing and snowboarding are the main draws to the Valley in winter, whilst in the summer it’s all about walking, hiking, mountaineering, paragliding and mountain biking. But even if you’ve no aspirations to conquer Mont Blanc or ski down the steepest, powder-filled slopes, you will still fall in love with this most famous corner of the French Alps, which exudes a certain charm, is steeped in history and boasting one of the most impressive backdrops of any town you’ll visit, during any season....

We went to Monkey for Australia Day 2012.
For the short time we were there the bar had the aroma of a mouldy changing room and the personality of a paving slab. The bouncer with the puffa jacket had to consult with his superiors before he did anything. The barman with the beanie hat ably chipped in that he "nearly had to get the Mace spray out", to control the huge crowd of 3 that had built up by this point.
It's such a shame that a picturesque town like Chamonix is tarnished by a bar like Monkey.
For Australia Day 2013 we're going to go somewhere a little less dictatorial. Like North Korea.
We had a FABULOUS experience snowshoeing in Chamonix!
As I went with my parents, we chose to go on a gentle scenic walk. The surroundings were just spectacular, and it was amazing to be able to trek through there, like walking through a fairytale. Snowshoeing is such a great alternative (or addition) to skiing.
Kate, our guide, was wonderful- we loved her! Phil was also really great and communicative in the lead up, replying so promptly to my emails and helping me out with everything.
Definitely the highlight of our Chamonix trip!!
