Dominican Republic Weather

The average annual temperature at sea level in the Dominican Republic is 25° C (77°F), with little seasonal variation. The winter season lasts from November to April, and the humidity is relatively low during these months, although it tends to cool down a bit in the evenings. The summer season runs from May to October, when coastal regions average daily highs of around 31°C (87°F), dropping down to about 22°C (72°F) at night.

The coolest part of the country is the Cordillera Central mountain region, around Jarabacoa and Constanza, where the average highs can be as low as 16°C (61°F). The desert regions in the southwest of the country experience the highest average temperatures, which rise to over 40°C (104°F) at times. The northern areas of the Dominican Republic experience the greatest amount of rainfall, predominantly between October and April, whereas the southern areas tend to see their greatest rainfall between May and November. The Dominican Republic is located in an area where hurricanes can occur, and the Caribbean hurricane season officially lasts from the beginning of June to the end of November. 

Visitors to the Dominican Republic can generally expect long periods of sunshine and blue skies, all year round.
