Once coined the tallest hotel in the world, the Buri Al Arab is a world renowned landmark in Dubai that is inspired by and shaped to mimic the sail of a traditional Arabian dhow. Located on an artificial island 280 metres offshore in Al Sufouh district, this seven-star hotel is the epitome of luxury, with guests being chauffeured from the airport in a Rolls Royce or flown in by helicopter.
Entry to this architectural icon is restricted to guests only. Non-guests and regular siteseers must have bookings at any of the hotel's eight restaurants to gain access to the site. These bookings are often taken in advance and secured by credit cards to ensure attendance.
The Burj's guest list comprises of the high-flying rich and famous of the world who seek a bit of seclusion, opulence and first-class pampering. Many heads of state, Hollywood stars, athelets and musicians have enjoyed a stay at this landmark. But try to get a name out of the hotel's staff and you'll get nothing but respectful apologies as they are sworn to secrecy in order to safeguard their guests' privacy.
