Soft and Hard Adventure Tours

It is not merely a means of transportation from one side of a mountain to the other. Any one of the various itineraries aboard Tren Ecuador takes you on an incomparable journey through gorgeous and colorful landscapes, diverse ecosystems and impressive volcanoes distinctive of the majestic Andes, a dramatic zig zag railroad known as the 'Nariz del Diablo' (Devil's Nose), coastal scenery, museum visits, folklore performances, handicrafts, ice 'harvesting' on the Chimborazo, and more. These are just some of the many attractions included in Tren Ecuador's itineraries and packages.

A fabulous and fun way to see and experience the country, in comfortable and safe cars, with guides and well-appointed train stations, and with several price-level options available.

And for some romance, reserve your seat on the Tren Crucero (Cruise Train) which started operations in June 2013; a revamped vintage luxury steam train that does the 277 mile route between Quito and Guayaquil, with overnight stays at hotels along the way, a truly memorable experience.

Tren Ecuador has different facilities at each station; you can see what these are on the route map on their website. These facilities include:

The Train Café: the perfect place to taste the delicious sandwiches, drinks and other specialities prepared mainly by communities situated alongside the railways. The Train Café is a venture operated by local communities under the quality control established by Tren Ecuador.

The Train Souvenir Shop offers tourists the chance to purchase a memory of their train ride. Most of these products are handmade by associations of craftsmen from regions that intersect with the railways. The business model is similar to the one of the Train Café, which guarantees that the earnings are equally distributed among the associations' members.

The Arts & Crafts Square is a space to promote local craftsmen. In this place travellers can learn about and buy arts and handicrafts produced by local communities.

The Train Museum is a special space designated for instruction and entertainment. Here visitors of the train station can learn about different topics such as railroad construction, the operation of locomotives, coaches and wagons; as well as the culture, customs and traditions of each community where there are stations located.

The Train Shelters are a new complementary train product, which will be implemented in restored train stations. These hostel /shelters are a valuable tourist asset offering the chance for leisure and accommodations for those who wish to complement their journey within the local tourist circuits of each destination.
