Located in Santiago de Compostela, an emblem of European cultural tradition whose historic city is a World Heritage Site, the City of Culture of Galicia which cost hundreds of millions of euros to build, rises on the top of the hill Gaiás as a formidable architectural statement for the new century.
Designed in the shape of a giant scallop,an emblem of the Camino de Santiago (St. James Way) by the American architect Peter Eisenman to host the best of cultural expressions of Galicia, Spain and the rest of the World, this new "city", contributes towards meeting the challenges of the information and knowledge society. Its unique buildings, interconnected by streets and plazas equipped with state-of-the-art technology, make up a space of excellence for reflection, debate and actions orientated towards Galicia's future and place in the world.
Its spaces host services and activities devoted to the preservation of heritage and memory, the study, research, experimentation, production and dissemination in the field of literature and thinking, music, drama, dance, film, the visual arts, audiovisual creation and communication. As a place for convergence and international projection, the City of Culture of Galicia revitalises in the 21st century contributing from a cultural standpoint to the social and economic development of Galicia.
The City of Culture of Galicia includes the world-class Library and the Archive of Galicia which opened in January 2011. Visitors have free access to the Museum, Library and Archives as well as to the outdoor facilities such as the Hedjuk Towers and the Central Plaza. There is also a program of guided cultural visits that allows visitors to discover the secrets of this architectural marvel. Love it our hate it it has left its mark on the city of Santiago forever!

Museum Opening Hours : Tuesday to Sunday 11.00 to 22.00, closed Mondays.

Archives and Library Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday 08.30 to 14.30.
Free guided visits: The visit will start at the Information Point (Espazo On)
