Riva is a peaceful beach resort located about 40km from Istanbul on the Black Sea coast, not far from the Anadolu Feneri (Anatolian Lighthouse) and Sile. Known for its large sandy beaches, small stream and forests, this former Greek colony which dates back to Byzantine times is now a popular alternative for those after some calm.
The village itself sports a few small restaurants and there are many scenic spots from which to enjoy a picnic. The crumbling remains of Riva Castle overlook the beach, making for a breathtaking photo opportunity.
Though Riva is a popular place to take a dip, swimmers should beware of the sometimes dangerous rip currents which occur here.
"Make voyages! Attempt them...there's nothing else" - Tennessee Williams
