Kuala Lumpur Weather

Kuala Lumpur, tropical by nature, is blessed with good weather all year round. The average temperature throughout the year is 32-35 degrees Celsius or 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 95%. The stable climate experience throughout the year is due to its surrounding mountains and nearby Sumatra islands of Indonesia that shields it from extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

There are two predominant monsoon conditions that affects Kuala Lumpur:

a) North East Monsoon that is from December to March.

b) South West Monsoon that runs from October to November.

However global climate change (and urban development) has played its role that resulted in an average rainfall of only 170 millimetres a month throughout the year. Although the wettest season is usually around October and November which averages about 250-300 millimetres of rainfall, it rarely rains for days at a time. The driest periods are usually between May to July with an average rainfall of  about 125 millimetres a month.  What it means is, sunshine is abundance in Kuala Lumpur, making it a perfect holiday destination.

Kuala Lumpur in the past, was plagued by flash floods due to sudden onset of heavy rain. However the city solved this problem by building the S.M.A.R.T Tunnel (Storm Water Management And Road Tunnel) which channels the rain water away from the city. Nowadays, flash floods in the city is a rare occurence, but do prepare to weave through traffic jams during rainy days in the city. On the plus side, in terms of natural disasters, it is good to know that due to its geographical location and shielding from nearby countries, Kuala Lumpur is free from earthquakes and hurricanes.
