A temperate continental climate dominates the Czech Republic meaning long hot summers and icy and snowy winters. Surprisingly summer sees the most rainfall. Because the country is completely landlocked and for example unlike Germany and Poland there is no coastline, the temperature difference between summer and winter can be extremely high.
During March, April and May the big snow melting happens, temperature rise suddenly, and there can be enormous variations in temperature between afternoon time and night time. For many people the springtime is the most beautiful and enjoyable time especially after the long winter, and they can go outdoors safely again.
By far the hottest months are those of June, July, followed by August. Temperatures can reach as high as 35°C, frequent thunderstorm occur because of the very high humidity. Rain showers can be intensive and in fact the country has its most rainfall during these months.
By mid September autumn is settling in although the warm temperatures remain for many weeks. Its a beautiful time for people who love nature, especially taking photographs in the parks of Prague. During October the temperatures are already falling while the deciduous trees shed their leaves. By the end of November, temperatures usually range around the freezing point.
Beginning in December daylight is much shorter with many icy days and the coldest months are under way. Christmas time always has some cheerfulness to help people forget, that the worst weather is ahead. Normally January and February brings north winds and sometimes deep snow, which makes movement difficult. During these months, there is usually snow in the mountains and sometimes in the major cities and lowlands.
