Pernambuco in North-East Brazil is regarded by many as the best and biggest street Carnival in Brazil, and perhaps the world, and its very democratic and totally free to join in or just watch.
The richness of culture and arts in Pernambuco is showcased throughout the Carnival period, which starts the week (or even weeks) before the official week of festivities.
Many different rhythms and performing groups parade the packed streets following their bands. The public are free to join in and many people create their own and very creative fancy-dress to make the party even more fun.
Just bring yourself, or come with some friends and dress up in fancy dress.
