![]() The Lobster House - Humarhusid OverviewThe Lobster House has been operated since 1993, and is one of Reykjavik‘s oldest restaurants. It has maintained a sterling reputation from day one, which comes to no surprise, as the fine dining experience and elegant environment is hard to find anywhere else. The Lobster House is situated in the heart of Reykjavik in a house that was built in 1838. It‘s original look has been preserved over the years, which gives the restaurant distinctive character and authenticity. The house has a rich history and was once home to Hannes Hafstein, a famous poet and Iceland's first prime minister.
Lobster dishes are the main focus on the menu but there is a lot more to choose from. The starters are fresh and exciting, for example the whale tataki with ginger jelly, soya and sesam vinagrette, and the carpaccio of horse with lobster, wild mushrooms and foie gras. Since lobster is the specialty of The Lobster House we feel obligated to mention a few of the fantastic picks on the menu, such as the garlic grilled lobster tails with skyr sauce, green salad and potatoes, and the mouthwatering lobster and pork belly-cauliflower with apricots and chili.
Other seafood choices on the menu include the succulent fillet of cod and lobster with parsnip, noisette and ginger chutney. There are a few exciting horse meat courses to choose from as well. One of them is the tenderloin of horse and grilled lobster with parmigiano potatoes, mushrooms and rosemary sauce, rumored to be the best meat dish in town. The desserts are quite savoury as well, particularly the skyr and white chocolate with raspberries and marengue. Finally, they have an extensive wine menu with a selection of wines from regions all over the world.
If you‘re in the mood for an upscale dinner at one of Reykjavik‘s most luxurious restaurants, The Lobster House is the perfect destination for you. |

October 2009 Lobster heaven in a beautiful old house
The service was impeccable; the lobster is small, but much tastier than the one you get in the US.
I would highly recommend anyone visited while they are in Reykjavik its quiet romantic place.
I reccomend the lobster soup as a starter, and of course the lobster as a main course.
Brilliant five stars!!
