Composer Residences in Vienna

The incredible thing about Vienna is that most of the famous composer residences have survived in their original form till today. The City of Vienna made sure over the past decades to conserve most of them and make them available to the public.

Vienna's famous composers did by no means live a lavish and luxurious life - on the contrary, most lived in poverty and had to fight for survival. Therefore do not expect big palais and mansions. Most are hidden places, located in small alleys and the access is via a modest staircase - all part of the charm discovering these places.
