Wineries Restaurants in Vienna

Austrian wine has become to be one of the finest and most well known throughout Europe. The wine producers in Vienna have their own vineyards and produce such little but delicious amounts of wine, that it is consumed only locally.

If you come to Vienna, you absolutely MUST visit one of the famour 'Heuriger', wine inns scattered around the city, mainly in the district called 'Grinzing'. These wine taverns are a unique experience: they offer a peculiar ambiance, the same one that they used to have during the imperial times. They are often hidden, but when you get in you have the chance to sit around one of the tables of their gardens (if you go in summer) and enjoy typical local wine as well as good regional food. If you prefer white wine, you should try the renowned Grüner Veltliner or the sweeter Gelber Muskateller. If you are a red wine lover, make sure to have a glass of the famous Blaufränkish or the Zweigelt! As for the food, you can (in some places) take your own food from home or order some dishes at the inn. We highly reccomend you try some Viennese specialities such as the Frittatensuppe or the Leberknödel dumpling!
